# Workspaces and Spaces

> **Note:** Spaces help you organize your characters and assets into separate workspaces. Use them to keep different projects or themes organized.

## Overview

**Spaces** are workspaces within Character Studio that let you:

* Organize characters by project, theme, or purpose
* Keep work-in-progress separate from published characters
* Manage storage quotas per workspace
* Collaborate on specific collections

## Understanding Spaces

Each space is an independent workspace containing:

* Characters you create
* Images and assets
* Lorebooks
* Chat history

## Default Space

When you create your account, you receive a **Default Space** that:

* Contains all your initial characters
* Cannot be deleted
* Is marked with a ⭐ star icon

## Creating a New Space

1. Click **Spaces** in the sidebar
2. Click **Create new space**
3. Enter a name for your space
4. (Optional) Choose a color for the space icon
5. Click **Create**

**Naming suggestions:**

* By project: "Fantasy RPG", "Sci-Fi Universe"
* By purpose: "Work in Progress", "Published", "Archived"
* By genre: "Romance", "Adventure", "Comedy"

## Switching Between Spaces

To switch to a different space:

1. Click **Spaces** in the sidebar
2. Select the space you want to view
3. The sidebar updates to show content from that space

Your current space name appears in the **Spaces** section of the sidebar.

## Managing Spaces

### Rename a Space

1. Click **Spaces** in the sidebar
2. Hover over the space you want to rename
3. Click the **Edit** icon
4. Enter the new name
5. Click **Save**

### Set Default Space

Make a space your default (where new characters are created):

1. Open space settings
2. Click **Set as Default**
3. The space now shows a ⭐ star

### Delete a Space

> **Warning:** Deleting a space permanently removes all characters, images, and assets within it. This action cannot be undone.

1. Open space settings
2. Click **Delete Space**
3. Confirm by typing the space name
4. Click **Delete**

## Space Contents

Each space contains separate collections of:

| Content Type   | Description                           |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| **Characters** | AI characters created in this space |
| **Images** | Generated or uploaded images |
| **Lorebooks** | Knowledge bases for context injection |
| **Assets** | Media files and documents |

## Storage Quotas

Each space has storage limits based on your subscription tier:

| Tier       | Storage per Space |
| ---------- | ----------------- |
| Free       | 100 MB            |
| Pro        | 1 GB              |
| Enterprise | 10 GB             |

To check your storage usage:

1. Go to **Settings** > **Storage**
2. View usage breakdown by space

## Best Practices

### Organize by Project

Create separate spaces for each major project:

```
📁 Fantasy Kingdom (space)
   ├── King Aldric (character)
   ├── Princess Elena (character)
   └── Castle Lorebook
📁 Space Opera (space)
   ├── Captain Nova (character)
   └── Alien Species Lorebook
```

### Use Descriptive Names

Choose names that clearly indicate the space's purpose:

* ✅ "Completed Characters - Ready to Publish"
* ✅ "Client Project - Acme Corp"
* ❌ "Space 1"
* ❌ "New folder"

### Archive Old Projects

Move completed projects to an "Archive" space to keep your main workspace clean:

1. Create an "Archive" space
2. Move finished characters there
3. Keep active work in your default space

### Monitor Storage

Regularly check storage usage:

* Delete unused images
* Remove draft characters you won't finish
* Export and archive large projects

## Moving Characters Between Spaces

Currently, characters are created in your active space. To organize:

1. Note which space is active before creating
2. Switch spaces using the sidebar
3. New characters appear in the current space
